Gaming Corps deserves some credit for trying to breathe new life into the fishing slot genre, which has seen more than its fair share of clones and copycats. Fishing Pro Reel Collect manages to stand out, at least a little, thanks to its unique collector reel system, colour-matching mechanics, and polished design that visually outclasses a lot of its competitors.
However, once you cast past the surface, things start to feel more familiar. The core bonus round, complete with its progressive meter and win multipliers, lands in the same waters as dozens of other fishing-themed games. That’s not to say it’s a bad experience, but it does start to feel like a case of “new paint, same boat.”
On the plus side, the max win of 10,000x is attractive, and the base game at least offers something different with the layered collection system. If you're tired of the same old Big Bass copy/paste jobs, Fishing Pro Reel Collect may offer just enough of a twist to be worth a few test spins - especially via the demo slot mode. Whether it reels you in or you let it off the hook, though, is up to you.
