Beetlejuice Say It 3 Times Slot

For all the strange material Beetlejuice offers to work with, Light & Wonder has chosen a surprisingly conventional structure for Beetlejuice Say It 3 Times. The 1988 dark comedy supplies the characters, Sandworms and suitably eccentric backdrop, but most of the gameplay revolves around Coins, jackpots and variations on Hold & Win. There are several interconnected features to uncover, yet mechanically it's much more familiar than the licence might suggest.

The game uses 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines, with stakes ranging from 0.20 to 600. Medium-high volatility is paired with a 96.02% default RTP and a maximum payout of 7,500x the bet. Beetlejuice acts as the Wild, while Mystery Coins can reveal regular Coins or Sandworms. A Sandworm has a chance to activate the Beetlejuice Feature on its own and guarantees it when accompanied by at least five Coins. Six or more Coins and Sandworms in total trigger Hold & Win.

Hold & Win starts with 3 spins, with only blanks, Coins and Sandworms able to appear. New Coins or Sandworms lock into position and reset the counter to 3. Coin values range from 0.5x to 5x the bet, while Mini, Minor and Major Jackpot Coins award 5x, 25x and 500x respectively. Filling all 15 positions completes the grid and awards the 5,000x Grand Jackpot. If Sandworms were involved in triggering the round, their Beetlejuice Feature is played first and its winnings are carried into Hold & Win.

The separate Beetlejuice Feature also begins with 3 spins and can activate from the base game, Free Spins or Hold & Win. Sandworms remain locked and reset the counter whenever another lands, with up to seven positions initially available. Their prizes range from 1.5x to 25x the bet, alongside the same Mini, Minor and Major Jackpots. Filling all seven spaces opens an eighth position containing the opportunity to land a Beetlejuice Coin and claim the Beetlejuice Jackpot.

Three Betelgeuse Scatters on reels 2-4 award 8 Free Spins plus an initial 1x payout. Mystery Shutters can lock onto the reels during the feature and continue revealing the same symbol type on subsequent spins, with Coins and Sandworms available through these Shutters. Sandworms can once again lead into the Beetlejuice Feature. Where feature purchases are offered, 50x the bet triggers one of the game's bonus rounds.

There's certainly no shortage of moving parts, and the way Sandworms allow the Beetlejuice Feature, Hold & Win and Free Spins to interact is more interesting than simply presenting three isolated bonuses. Unfortunately, most of those parts ultimately lead back to familiar locked-symbol respins and jackpot collection. The Beetlejuice licence gives the game considerably more personality than the mechanics themselves, and a 7,500x ceiling provides respectable potential, but this feels like a conventional Hold & Win package dressed in one of cinema's least conventional worlds.
