PLO, aka Pot Limit Omaha

The wrongest thing I’ve touched in my life: PLO.

If you ask my experience, I feel way worse than my 50,000x loss on Tombstone Rip (75% RTP in 200,000 spins)

It’s also more painful than spending hours to do KYC and proof of address and talking to customer support to prove that I’m not multiaccounting, just to withdrawal my winnings which is only $150 (plus account banned).

Quick guide to PLO

1. Don’t do.

OK now you’ve finished the tutorial. Actually that’s also the endgame.

If NLHE (No Limit Hold Em) is Slaughter, then PLO (Pot Limit Omaha) is Massacre. Probably not the most accurate reference I come up with, but you get the point.

More hole cards, more combinations, more draws means more equity to call and continue for a few more streets (especially Backdoor flush and Backdoor straight those are particularly cool). And all those leads to more coolness.

Overpair now becomes horseshit, dies to two pairs, trips, sets, and other whatever the hell comes from out of nowhere. Anyone attempt bluff catching with an overpair shall experience massive financial losses, which gets even more stupid if there’s no pair on the board.

3bet? Trying to isolate other players? Nah that won’t work. All hands looks like a 9-headed hydra with over 2.9 septillion possible combination of draws and outs, and they’re never going to fold it preflop. In NLHE pre-flop equity can go below 20% (KK:AA), all the way down to 6% (AKo:AA) but in PLO everyone have 30% equity like it’s a free thing (J763 rainbow : AKsAKs) Due to the pot limit, they only need >=33% equity to call, so it’s an easy call when in position, thus the entire table should be cold calling the preflop open raise, or I’d say it’s cheaper that everyone just pay 1BB to limp (this also cause less rake, so it’s a win-win for all players)

Conclusion: it’s suggested to not waste your chips on pre-flop raising, trying to isolate or squeeze other players. Manually pumping up a big pot when the odd doesn’t favor you? Casinos would love to see this because bigger pots means more rake.

And when all the cool things and bad lucks happen together, you can lose 1000BB in as little as 2000-4000 hands. Even my most unlucky period when playing NLHE I’m getting nowhere near -25~-50BB per 100 hands. That number is just bizarre, and to get that kind of result in NLHE, you must fk up pretty much everything, both skill and luck. Well, even though 1000BB is just $250 and I still have cryptocurrency at least several times that amount, it’s still so painful to me, as you can see from the title.

So the smartest move is just don’t touch PLO in the first place.

NLHE (No limit Hold’Em, or Texas Hold’em) is better but still not recommended.

Slots are still much more fun. Or if you just want to gamble, some of you probably already know there’s 0% HE (House Edge) games going on, there’s a thing called Duel Casino. However always remember to DYOR first!
